The Pain Filled Road

Road trips don’t always go as planned.  Sometimes the unexpected happens and we need to re route our course.  We have a flat tire and our travel is delayed. We see a road closure ahead and we are forced to find a new way.  We have a car accident and our travel is halted.  At time like these we must adjust to the new path.  The same is true in life.  It can, at times, be messy,
We’re humming along our chosen path and an unplanned event changes our course. Death, illness, loss, unexpected tragedy. Suddenly, we are thrust onto a new path. Pain, confusion, and suffering set in. We are now somewhere we don’t want to be and certainly wouldn’t have planned to go.

How did this happen and why?  Will things ever be okay again?  At times like these we need something bigger than ourselves to help us through thee unplanned part of the journey.  So we turn to many things knowingly or unknowingly. ……alcohol, drugs, food, shopping, work, money, sex, relationships, entertainment, etc.; yet, we still can’t shake this suffering and the void in our heart and soul.  And during all these detours, the eternal void filler patiently waits. He desires to heal and bless us.  He sits waiting with open arms. All we need to do is believe and ask.

In fact, we are told in Psalm 147.3 “God heals the brokenhearted and binds up all their wounds”.  We are also told in 1st Peter 5.6-7, “Humble yourselves; therefore, under the mighty hand of God so at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you”.

Again, all we need to do is ask him and he will do immeasurably more with our pain filled road then we can ever imagine because he loves us, cares for us, created us. Have a pain filled road today? Try him out and see what he has in store for your comfort and your future. He patiently waits.

Roads to Nowhere

Let’s drive! Just me and you. Put the top down, the windows too. Wind in our hair, going nowhere, warmth of the sun, we’ll have fun…………and so we do…………

Just drive! Me and you. Put the top down, the windows too. Radio blasting, conversation lasting. We don’t care, where we go….. Where we end up, we don’t know…….

But we drive, me and you. We put the top down, the windows too. The wind’s in our hair, we’re going nowhere, warmth of the sun, and we’ll have fun………….and…….

So we do………

Just drive……..

Me and you, we put the top down, the windows too, the winds in our hair, we’re going nowhere, warmth of the sun, we’ll have fun and….

Yes, we do, conversation lasting, radio blasting, wind in our hair, going nowhere, we……………. just…..
……… drive. ………..

The Road to Freedom, Part 2

Yesterday we spoke about many of the freedoms we enjoy as Americans.  We also touched on the idea that forever freedom is possible (eternal life in Jesus Christ ) as explained in Romans Chapter 6.  Today, I would like to talk about another freedom enjoyed by Christians, freedom from our past, present and future mistakes.    WOW. Is that actually possible?  Can we actually live life free of guilt and regret?  Yes, we sure can.  Our conscience may remind us of choices were not proud of but it doesn’t have to be so.  In fact, we never need to worry about our imperfections again.

Sounds to good to be true, a life with peace of mind and peace with all of ourselves, including our flaws and struggles. It is; however, possible through belief in the power of Jesus Christ who bore all our griefs.  Isaiah Chapter 53 says it best.  See for yourself and meanwhile, here is verse from the chapter:

“It was our weaknesses that he carried. It was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought it was a punishment for his own sins! But he was pierced for our rebellion, crusheed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. ALL of us like sheep have strayed away. We have left God’s paths to follow our own. Yet the Lord laid on him the sins of us all”. This freedom, as most, comes at a great price, yet, we live free of guilt and shame and regret each day. How privileged we are!

The Road to Freedom, Part 1

WOW! How privileged we Americans are!  We have freedom!  Freedom of speech, freedom of belief, freedom of choice, and  freedom of religion to name a few.  How cool is that?  Unlike other countries, we have the privilege to choose how we live, act, believe!    Do we realize the price our freedom cost America?  Many wars, the 1929 Depression, untold lives. Heroes not mentioned alive or forever gone.  Or are they?

Well, that depends on our vantage point.  Gone if now is all there is.  Yet, if there is something more beyond now, nothing and noone is forever gone.  So, take it as you will, yet first check this out in Romans 6.23 where we read,  “the wages of sin are death but the gift of God is eternal life in Jesus Christ our Lord”.  So the next time you struggle,  remember NOTHiNG lasts forever and this to shall pass.  This life and all the freedom it offers is passing; yet, eternity is forever. So why not grab your forever freedom today?

The Road Less Traveled

The road less traveled is an expression we hear all the time but what does that mean?   I’m sure it means different things to different people.  To me,  it mesns the path of excellence, the high road, the way that seems harder but leads to great and unexpected rewards.   It’s the way into the mystery of the unknown.

Let’s picture this road less traveled,  shall we?  Perhaps there is grass overgrowing the road and a gentle stream flowing beside it.  We can almost hear the sounds of the bubbling brook and see the sun glistening down through the mighty trees while birds sing softly.  Within a moment on this less traveled road, we are surrounded by its beauty.  Just a short walk along the road and a sense of calm and peace arrive.  It is nothing like the hustle and bustle of the roads more traveled but what a peaceful gem it is.

I believe our lives can seem like the road less traveled at times as we are presented with many opportunities  and unfamiliar situations and have to decide what to do and which way to go.  Should we go the way that is familiar or should we take a new and less comfortable path?

With a little faith and courage, we take the first step down an unfamiliar road and then follow it to where it leads while enjoying all the unexpected surprises along the way.  Our initial anxiety and concern over the unfamiliar way lead to our peace and joy as we discover all the new and exciting things ahead.

This is how God guides our spiritual journey as well. A great description of God’s hand on our lives is found in Jeremiah 31.9 where he says, “Tears of joy will stream down their face and I will lead them home with great care. They will walk beside quiet streams and on smooth paths where they will not stumble. ” This is a beautiful picture of God’s saving hand as he leads us hime to him. He is waiting. Why not take a new road today? It takes courage to go on this unfamiliar path but God himself is there waiting for you on the less traveled road into the mystery of the unknown. Here’s to finding your pathway today!

Bumpy Roads

Spring is finally on the way!  After a brutal winter here in the states, we have many pot holes and bumpy roads all over our towns.  So many so, that it’s hard to navigate around some of them. When we can’t drive around them we just drive through them and hang on.

Life is like that sometimes.   There are things that happen along the way that we can’t get around and must go through.  A few examples of these very bumpy life roads are growing old, diseases, the death of persons we love dearly, and even our very own death.  At times like these, there’s no other way but through it so get through it is what we try to do.

What if there was a better way?  What if the bumpy roads of life and the potholes/pits didn’t have to feel so bad?   What if there was a way instead of just going through the bumpy roads of life to thrive despite them?  I believe there is a way.  In fact, we are told that a power greater than us will carry us through. In Phillipians 4.6-7 we hear, “Don’t worry about anything. Instead pray about EVERYTHING. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he’s done. Then you will experience God’s peace which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus”.

No matter what is happening in your life today, the giver of life is ready to lend a hand. Give Phillipians 4.6-7 a try and see how you will rise above the circumstances and amaze even yourself! He’s waiting patiently to help along life’s bumpy road!

The Long, Windy Road

“Road trip”I announced.  “Surprise, we are headed to the Suber Bowl”.  “No way” my husband exclaimed with a gleam in his eyes!  “Yes way” I said!  So, after earning the impromptu wife/mother of the year award (LOL), we take off on an eighteen hour journey to New Orleans.  We were so excited about the destination that we didn’t think about the journey.

We hop in the car and and within hours we were on long, winding, snow covered roads.  For hours it snowed until the dark set in.  We pressed on because we had to or else we would miss the big game the next day.  Eventually were in warmer weather.  Thank goodness we thought.  Safe at last.

No, not so fast.  Hours of rain followed with hours of a fog storm.  Not to mention, there was no lodging near the stadium.  We finally arrived a day and a half later in New Orleans just in time to secure a hotel and head to the game, which, thankfully, at least, we won!

Life is like this.  We sometimes set a goal or destination and we take off towards it; yet, along the way we meet resistance, adversity, and difficulty.  Yet, we also have times of joy and satisfaction.  We don’t always have a plan and even when we do, and the unexpected happens, we press on.

What about the long and windy road to heaven?  What is our plan? Do we know the way?  How can we possibly? The truth is, in fact, we do know the way……”For God so loved the world that he gave his ONLY son that whoever believes in him should not perish but have ETERNAL life”. Jesus is the eay to heaven and God himself has paved the way to life’s biggest game of all, eternity! Get going so you can be sure not to miss the biggest game.

The Back Roads

Not everyone knows the back roads.  They are usually known by the locals of any given area.  Sure, we may stumble upon a back road accidentally at times, or find one using modern technology (GPS), but usually the locals are the ones who know them well.

Yet, the back roads sure are a gem when we find them! A pleasant gift, whether found from the locals advice or stumbled upon!   Back roads usually avoid the hustle and bustle of the main road, are an alternative route when a roadblock or accident is ahead, have scenic moments that are so beautiful, and give us, at times, a sense of peace and rest, or a shortcut to get from one place to another.

The same is true (all of thee above) of the spiritual road and the pathway to heaven and God. The best way to know the back road is to ask the locals; yet, some do stumble upon them! But how do we know that we’ve found the back road we say? We can’t possibly know the locals of heaven nor the roads they travel because we aren’t there yet.  There’s no way to know.

Oh, how mistaken we are in this thinking! We think there is no local of heaven (nor any heaven itself) to ask how to find the way to God. We think how can we possibly know the way to heaven?

That’s where this back road is different. It’s a local road that can be known to all who are willing; yet, we drive blindly onward, making our own back roads and getting frustrated at the roads we take leading us to nowhere.  Utimately, we fail to realize the LOCAL of heaven has shown us the way and his name is Jesus Christ.

I know, I know. Believe me, I’ve heard the stories of other locals and the many roads to nirvanna, yet, the truth calls. We see it, we hear it, we feel it, and our souls rise. We know it’s true in the same way we have a hunch on a back road …….wind blowing, our hair flowing, windows down, music playing, that we’re on the right road.  Yet, we don’t need to rely on this experience, our feelings,  or a hunch for our back road.

We have another witness to rely on and the ONLY story still spoken  2015 years later worldwide.  Doesn’t sound compelling?  Ok, see me 2015 years from now, at this time, and talk to me about how much current stories such as American Sniper or Fifty Shades of Gray are  impacting  our world and changing lives, while, meanwhile our local Jesus is waiting………….patiently!

So, we do have a local to ask and he does know the way as Mark 16.9 witnesses,   “After the Lord Jesus had spoken to them, he was taken up into heaven and sat down at the right hand of God”.   WOW. Please don’t miss this. The same guy who hung on the tree spoke about heaven and then went where???
To the right hand of God. …….see me when other locals have that story.  LOL.

All kidding aside, go ahead and doubt but when you do, remember, we all have a back road to somewhere that ends.  We all want peace.  We all believe something.  I say why not believe in something that will outlast all our backroads. Give the local of heaven a try. He’s waiting with open arms.

One Way Roads

City driving can be very frustrating at times.  Congestion, crowds, and one way roads make travel a hectic challenge.  We want to go somewhere to our right and the sign ahead says left turn only.  GRRRR.  It would be so easy to be able to go right.  Why does it have to be so frustrating?  Why can’t we just go our way?

Our way? Not a chance. We have no choice but to oblige the one way sign or be hit by incoming traffic.  So, we make the left to eventually go right instead of going our own way.   This is because our own way would harm us.

Life is like that.  There is only one way to heaven even though we’d like to believe there are many.  But we deceive and harm ourselves if we believe we can make our own roadway to heaven.

In fact, Jesus says in John 14.6, “I am the way the truth, and the light.  NOONE comes to the father except through me”.  We can no more decide our own way to heaven than we can drive our own way on city roads.

If any road led to heaven, the death of Jesus would have been unnecessary.  If Jesus isn’t the ONE way to eternity then he died a meaningless death.  Furthermore,  we could dispute this truth and if the bible is the word of God all day long but the truth remains.  See for yourself.  Read the story in John Chapter 14.  Do the research.  Many people came to the truth this way.  Do yourself a favor and grab your ONE way today!

Highways and Byways

I used to be afraid of highway driving when I was younger. If it involved a highway, I wasn’t going. As time passed, I learned,  if I wanted to go to certain places or events, I’d better get used to driving on a highway. I became accustomed to the hustle and bustle of the highways and byways.

Life, like highways and byways, can be stressful and crowded at times. Or we can be afraid of thr challenges before us. There are so many needs and responsibilities and the day goes by in a blur.  We have become accustomed to life in the fast lane day after day.

We just need some peace and rest!

As always, there is a solution. We read in God’s word in Luke 14.23,  “Then the lord said unto the servant,  “Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come to in, that my house may be filled”.  How cool is that?  The God of the universe is opening his home to us. The God of the universe is extending an invitation to all who desire his peace and rest.

Read the story in Luke 14 for yourself and you’ll see  many persons didn’t want Gods offer to come to his home.  It’s no different today.   I don’t know about you but I don’t plan to be one of the persons who doesn’t want Gods offer to come to his home. I dont want to reject God’s offer of salvation and rest.  For me, there’s no place I’d rather be.
