The Broken Road

Ever had a dream unfulfilled?  Ever find yourself falling apart or shattered in pieces like glass wondering how you will get through?  I’m sure at some point we have all felt crushed or found ourselves winding along a broken road. Life has a way of doing that from time to time, breaking us.

The broken road is harsh, difficult,  unyielding, impossible to maneuver.  It is certainly not leading anywhere or is it?  Devastation is all we see and feel.  How do we go on?   How to we move beyond our pain?  Where do we turn?

Jesus has something to say about where to turn in Matthew 11.28  when he says, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest”.  Ah, rest.  A break from the pain.  Exactly what we need in the harsh, broken times.

Call me crazy; but, perhaps the broken road is a gift to us.  A time to grow in ways we otherwise wouldn’t have.  Yes, brokenness changes us and takes us places we hadn’t planned to go.  Yet, we are not alone.  Psalm 34.18 says, “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and those that are crushed in spirit”.  How comforting to know our God is with us in our broken places and willing to help us through.

Are you broken today?  Do you need rest and feel all alone?  If so, the maker of the universe is near and ready to give you rest.  Give him a try and see what happens to your broken road.
